Specifying search box options for a search profile
An administrator can determine which search targets will display in the Search box for a specific search profile. These search target choices let users choose a data source target in which to search. You can add, remove, or reorder Discovery and federated search targets. The search targets that you choose for a search profile are displayed in Searching in the order that they appear in the Searchable and Shown lists under Discovery Search Targets and Federated Search Targets.
In addition to selecting the targets that display in the Search box selection list, you can also enable search targets that do not display in the list. This lets you allow patrons to search across targets while being constrained by search limits rather than by search targets.

If you try to enable the search target display or delete the profile at the same time as another administrative user, the software displays an error message indicating that the search profile record has been updated or deleted by another user, and prevents you from saving any changes that you may have made to the profile. To continue making changes to this search profile, choose Cancel to reload the data and, if the profile is still available, re-enter your changes. If you disable a specific search target for a search profile while a patron is using that target in Searching, the software removes that search target from Searching when the search results are refreshed. The software then redisplays the patron’s search results without the search hits from the search target that you have just disabled. |

The Discovery administrator database metadata is cached in the Discovery Server application. Any changes to Search Box Options will not be reflected to the patron in Searching until the metadata cache is refreshed. For more information, see Refreshing the search cache. Also, the program indexes only the search fields that appear in the Selected list. No results will appear for fields added to the Search Box until the indexes for the search targets listed in the "Searchable and Shown" and "Searchable Only" boxes have been run. To enable search targets for a search profile
- Log in to the Admin console.
- Choose Profiles from the navigation pane.

Find the search profile for which you want to configure search targets, then from the Select menu choose the Search Box Options.
The Search Box Options page displays.
- Select the options, as necessary. For more information, see Fields: Search Box Options.
- Choose OK to save your changes, or choose Cancel to discard your changes and return to Profiles.
- Choose Scheduled Tasks > Search Source Tasks.
- Run the Search Source indexes for each field you added to the Search Box. For more information, see Triggering a task manually.
